We were very pleased to have been included in a featured editorial In Grace Ormonde Wedding Style's April 2013 edition. The article highlighted top hotels for a Canadian destination wedding, and we were listed as one of two Toronto hot-spots.

In the words of author Bob Curley:
"Toronto is a city of neighborhoods, including a pair of Chinatowns and enclaves with large Greek, Italian, Portuguese, and Indian populations, so of course you’ll find plenty of great ethnic restaurants as well as colorful festivals year-round. A great sports city, Toronto is home to the Hockey Hall of Fame and franchises in every major sport, making activities for the groom and his men easy to plan.

Brides, on the other hand, can take the ladies out for a stroll down Yonge Street—the longest street in the world—to shop in the fashionable Yorkville district, home to the exclusive Hazelton Hotel."

May Art Exhibitions

This May, Toronto is bursting with fantastic exhibitions to visit. While many spaces are showing photographic-based exhibitions as part of the Contact Photography Festival, we've identified a few other must-see shows in the city below:

Revealing the Early Renaissance: Stories and Secrets in Florentine Art
Art Gallery of Ontario
Until June 16

Co-organized by the Getty Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario, this spectacular exhibition sheds light on the artists who gave birth to the Renaissance — changing art, and the world, forever. The exhibition comprises more than 90 key pieces from the first half of the 14th century, including Giotto's five-panel "Peruzzi Altarpiece" and his "Madonna of San Giorgio alla Costa," two painted manuscripts of "Dante's Divine Comedy," and Bernardo Daddi's "Virgin Mary with Saints Thomas Aquinas and Paul."

A Bit of Clay on the Skin: New Ceramic Jewellery
May 16 - August 11
Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art

This exhibition explores the appeal of ceramics, especially porcelain, in jewellery and showcases the versatility and allure of the medium, which can be modeled or cast, used alone or with metal, wood, and stone, and vary in color and texture. The exhibition presents 140 works and features the work of 20 cutting-edge jewellery artists from around the world. While some make reference to traditional jewellery in materials and symbolism, others altogether redefine it in substance, form, and matter.

Out of the box: The Rise of Sneaker Culture
The Bata Show Museum
Until March 30, 2014

The first exhibition in North America to showcase the history of sneaker culture, "Out of the Box" features over 120 sneakers representing the past 150 years and highlights iconic sneakers from the 20th and 21st centuries. Explore the historical beginnings of the sneaker from its emergence to becoming one of the most democratic forms of footwear to its current position as status symbol and icon of urban culture.

Re: Position
Harbourfront Centre Gallery
Until June 16

This exhibition brings together seven artists whose works comment on consumerism, social mores and the dialogue between the functional, decorative and art object. They mine the past and present of their disciplines – metalsmithing, sculpture, and textiles – for the techniques and concepts used in their works. Art history is scrutinized; process and function are subverted. Featuring the work of: Boris Bally, Cal Lane, Myra Mimlitsch-Gray, Zeke Moores, Meghan Price, Amelia Toelke, and Jonathan Wahl.

Jack Chambers
Loch Gallery, 16 Hazelton Avenue
May 2 - 15

This exhibition of privately owned paintings and drawings from 1959 to 1977 offers a rare opportunity to view the work of a Canadian Master. Chambers was born in London, Ontario in 1931. In his determined search for art training in early adulthood, he left Canada in 1953 travelling throughout Italy, Austria, France and Spain. By 1968, Chambers began painting again producing the master works in the style he named “Perceptual Realism.” Many of these paintings and drawings are exhibited in this show.
The forecast for the weekend is sunny and bright - perfect weather for a stroll around one of the city's parks or event a trip over to Toronto Island. If that's not up your street, then check out these other suggestions for activities in the city:

Pay a visit to the Art Gallery of Ontario to see "Revealing the Early Renaissance: Stories and Secrets in Florentine Art," "Lost in the Memory Palace: Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller" or the "Sorel Etrog" retrospective, opening on Saturday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will play the Montreal Canadiens at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday night. If you don't have a ticket for the game, we suggest watching it at one of the pubs in Yorkville, or from our Silver Screening Room, with snacks by ONE Restaurant.

Check out the amazing sneakers in the Bata Shoe Museum's exhibition "The Rise of Sneaker Culture."

See a film in the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, North America’s largest film festival dedicated exclusively to the documentary format. Check out our recommendations here.

It's going to be sunny and warm all weekend, so grab your sunglasses and we'll see you on the patio at ONE Restaurant!
